For our motorized smart curtains, Matter offers the latest in smart home technology, enabling an effortless connection with ecosystems like Apple Home, Samsung SmartThings, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and so on. This innovation allows users to control their window coverings with greater flexibility and convenience, ensuring a smooth and integrated smart home experience.
Platforms and Hubs: The Backbone of Matter Connectivity
To use SmartWings Matter Shades, you need a hub or device with both Thread Border Router and Matter Controller functions. These are essential to connect the shades to your smart home system. For example, a HomePod mini works as both, making it compatible with Apple Home.
If you want to control the shades on multiple platforms, such as Alexa and Google Home, each platform requires its own Matter Controller. For instance, you can connect the shades to Apple Home using a HomePod mini, then share the Matter setup code to an Echo Show 5 (which functions as a Matter Controller) to enable control through Alexa.
It’s important to note that the Thread Border Router is only required once per setup. However, each additional platform, like Alexa or Google Home, needs a separate Matter Controller to operate the shades independently.
